Don’t Drive Yourself Crazy Juggling Career And Family by Bill Lee-Emery

Achieving a healthy balance between the demands of a hectic career and a busy family can be very challenging for many women.

There can serious physical, emotional, and even spiritual, consequences if women do not learn to achieve some sort of work-life balance, not only for themselves but also for their families.

However with a little know-how, effort and a willingness to give up trying to be all things to all people, all of the time, it can be done. Here are a few tips to get you started…

  1. Decide what’s most important and then prioritize: Determining what is most important in your life and then prioritizing those things is crucial. If you suspect your life is spiraling out of control and you are being pulled in opposite directions then STOP. Take some time out to review your life, your core values and where you really want to go.

  1. Schedule time for the important things: It is so easy to get caught up in your career or business. You may have a job that requires a great deal of responsibility, however it is just as important to schedule time for things that have nothing to do with work, i.e., spa dates, hobbies, catching up with friends, family time and time just for yourself. If you put these nurturing events into your diary you’ll have a better chance of rejuvenating your core energy.

  1. Set limits ahead of time: Map out how much time you need to allocate to both your career and family. Know what reasonable parameters are for you, your family and career. Decide what is non-negotiable and what is negotiable.  This will help you to be notice when those limits are being crossed so you can take action to regain your balance.

  1. Realize that no one can do it all: Hollywood mums often give the allusion that it is possible to have it all. Many work full-time, have children, all while looking fabulous and thin. What many Hollywood types fail to mention however, is the support staff required to accomplish all this. These women have stylists, nutritionists, trainers and nannies on-staff. Understanding that no can do it all by themselves, is freeing for a lot of women.

A life well lived requires purpose, passion…and balance. Fortunately, it is possible to achieve it and all the skills are learnable. It may, however, require that you make some difficult choices. The payoff in terms of your emotions, health (mental and physical) and your relationships is… priceless. Your family will love you for it!
