How To Bring More Femininity Into Your Daily Life
June the 24th is world femininity day, and as the days get colder it is the perfect time to move inwards and reflect on what femininity means and how the essence of femininity can bring such richness into the lives of both men and women.

Historically, traditionally and biologically men and women are defined to have separate and distinct roles. Masculine energy was directed to build and cultivate objects in the outside world, a woman’s part was to focus inwards on people and to create and carry new life, what a wonderful complementary union.
We all have different ideas about what it means to be feminine and to be in our feminine power.
Femininity is defined by many things- gentleness, intuition, softness, beauty, vulnerability, strength from wisdom, love, nurturing, compassion and the heart.
Femininity is living from the heart, and it is when we deny this that we become unbalanced, unfulfilled. We must follow our hearts calling, to our true purpose and nature to keep the fountain of love overflowing into ourselves and those around us.
A common expression of the deep feminine is that of creating a nurturing home, having children and embodying motherhood but it isn’t exclusive to procreation as this definition does not need to be exclusive to women only, the sense of spiritual motherhood can be realised by all. Men too can embody and express a deep femininity when operating and giving to their chosen profession from their heart they can bring this homely, nurturing quality to their vocations bringing more creativity, intuition and awareness of their roles as care givers and guardians of the vulnerable.
Many current spiritual texts that have been written about this time on earth needing the true feminine power to influence and lead us away from war and violence and to ultimately heal the world, this is a very powerful thought…… if we are all deeply loving ourselves and those around us we can heal the world! From a more tangible perspective there are many ways we can enhance our femininity to directly affect our own world & those around us.
Here are some practical ideas to help enhance & express femininity in our everyday lives.
- Femininity is expressed through the nurturing of ourselves and others. Take some extra time to ensure that you are eating 3 balanced warming meals a day in a quiet place, sitting still, not just grabbing a coffee on the run and waiting until 3pm to realise you’re about to scream at the traffic and your staaaaarving!
- As our feminine nature directly relates to our heart regular psychic housekeeping is essential to keep our intuitive decision making abilities clear. Indulge in or learn the art of massage, reiki or meditation. There are some great free guided meditation/hypnosis videos on you tube to help you stay connected to your true feminine nature. Shouting yourself a massage always has a flow on effect as you are more likely to go home and give your loved ones a massage too. Try to indulge yourself with long hot baths, dressing warmly especially in this cooler weather, reading, watching and consuming books, TV and other media that feeds and nourishes your gentle side not the eroding desolation of the news & loud aggressive pop music.
- Essential oils such as Geranium, Lavender, Melissa, Chamomile, Bergamont & especially Rose can be burned, inhaled, or sprayed onto a scarf that you can wear draped around your neck reminding you all day long to keep a lady like demeanor, keeping your words thoughtful and caring . Or you can add a couple of drops to your body cream as you rub it into each part of your body, pay close attention to how you feel about each part, offering it unconditional love….not as easy said than done.
- Listening to gentle instrumental music or female vocalists, this is such a nice way to set the tone in your home or workplace- some good artists are Sarah Maclachlan, Kate Bush, Lana Del Ray, Sarah Brightman, Paula Coles- Feeling love, Joss Stone or Owl eyes.
- Adorn yourself with all things that express your free flowing, shameless femininity - anything in the hues of pink, red or aqua, colourful patterned scarves, statement costume jewellery, dresses that are tight in all the right places yet still flattering, makeup that enhances your natural beauty, demure knitted cardigans and pearls, perfume, jangly bangles, high heels and stockings, long dress coats with matching hats, scarves and gloves or jeans and a t-shirt with a striking smear of red lipstick & fire engine nails. Although clothing is only but cloth deep it really does a have an impact on our psyche when we choose to dress as our heart desires. Dressing up is really such a nice chance to indulge the frivolous side of life and not for the attention, for how it makes you feel, and if you don’t have anything that evokes this in your wardrobe ask yourself why?
- Have the strength and foresight to take time out alone, even schedule into your diary. This is the space women need to fight for as it is often hard to assert that this is very, very important! Even more than football games and play dates. Women need time in their own home alone without others around, so they can just be. The art of pottering is undervalued as the best therapy around, no time constraints, nowhere to be and if you can steal 2 days in a row magic. Cook yourself a nice meal, read, listen to music and reconnect to yourself so that your femininity doesn’t get trampled on by the busyness of life.
- We can honour our feminine by learning to accept that our energy levels are different to that of men and children especially around our monthly ladies week! and we cannot keep up with them all the time. Learning to say no to things that are not going to honour our deepest needs leaves us space to rediscover what we do need and like to do. Accepting help when it is offered is also a great exercise in letting go of trying to do it all, and acknowledging our vulnerability.
- Research has shown that women’s brain waves change when in the company of other women and so too men. Spending time with other women is good for us on so many levels. Not only as a sounding board for life but to get the emotional support we need by talking listening and even swapping massages. When we get this emotional support from our network of friends we are less likely to become needy of our men.
You may even like to start your own women’s circle. Women’s circles are an ancient tradition that has been revived lately in a modern guise. Some choose to meet on the full moon taking inspiration from paganism using fun rituals, exercises and discussion to listen and really learn from each other. My girlfriends and I call our night witchy night- and anything goes! We all bring some scrumptious food to share and we sit in a circle in a room full of candles which really creates a sense of occasion and otherworldliness, we then take it in turns to share truthfully and intimately about our lives, which takes allot of courage but it’s never serious for too long as we often spend the night laughing hysterically over our neurotic tendencies and end up dancing for each other while eating mud cake.
Your women’s circle could take many forms from a wine & pizza night, to a knitting night whatever takes your fancy. The important bit is that you have the time to really sit and chat. Why not have some fun with it and get everyone to dress up in theme, light some candles, play atmospheric music, and pick a topic to discuss! There are loads of websites out there with ideas about what to do and information on people who hold circles that are open for you to go to once and get inspired to host your own. They are lots of fun and very, very powerful.
